D. M. Consunji, Inc. – First Balfour Joint Venture (DMFB-JV) inaugurated the P3.6 billion LRT Line 1 North Extension Project connecting the existing LRT Line 1 and MRT 3.

The 5.71-kilometer overhead rail line construction will run on an entirely new elevated viaduct from the Monumento station of the LRT 1 seamlessly connecting to the  North Avenue station of MRT 3, bridging the LRT-MRT loop.  The design and construct project involves the construction of the Balintawak, North Avenue and Roosevelt stations, elevator, escalator and lift provisions, overpasses and pedestrian walkways, and electro-mechanical works.

Last June 12, 2008, in line with the commemoration of the 110th Philippine Independence Day at the Bonifacio Monument was the unveiling of the project site led by Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno, DOTC Sec. Leandro Mendoza, LTFRB Chairman Thompson Lantion, LRTA Administrator Melquiades Robles  and Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri. They were joined by DMCI Executive Vice President and General Manager for Construction Edilberto Palisoc, Vice President and Business Development Manager Douglas Cunanan, AVP for Budget and Contracts Rebecca Civil, Finance Manager Frances Grace Mercado, First Balfour President Anthony Fernandez and other key officers.

The project duration will be 20 months and expected to be operational by May, 2010.  Once fully operational, the LRT North Extension project is expected to serve around 800,000 to 1 million passengers, reducing travel time in the metropolis by 50% percent and help decongest vehicular traffic on Edsa and other major roads..
